How Long Does Ceramic Coating Last? (And How to Make It Last Longer)
How long a ceramic coating really lasts — from 1 to 7+ years depending on the package — and the prep, washing and maintenance habits that decide where yours lands.
By Limestone Car Detailing · Updated

Key Takeaways
- Our coatings are rated from 1 year (Bronze) up to 7+ years (Ultimate).
- Prep matters as much as the product — every package includes single-stage paint correction.
- Brush car washes and harsh chemicals shorten a coating's life; pH-neutral, touchless washing extends it.
- When water stops beading, it's time for an inspection and top-up.
The honest answer is: it depends on the coating, the prep and how the vehicle is cared for afterwards. A professional ceramic coating lasts years rather than months, but the rating on the package is what it can do with proper care, not a guarantee regardless of how it's treated.
How long each package is rated for
- Bronze — 1-year protection, starting at $599.
- Silver — 3-year protection, starting at $799.
- Gold — 5-year protection, starting at $1,299, with an annual maintenance wash.
- Ultimate — 7+ year protection, starting at $1,599, with a bi-annual maintenance service.
Every package includes a single-layer ceramic coating and single-stage paint correction. See the full details on our ceramic coating page.
What decides how long yours lasts
1. The prep before it goes on
A coating bonds to whatever's underneath it. If the paint is contaminated or swirled, the bond is weaker and the defects get sealed in. That's why the paint is fully decontaminated and corrected first. Read more in what is paint correction.
2. How it's washed
Automatic washes with brushes wear coatings down and add swirls. Harsh, high-alkaline cleaners strip them faster too. A pH-neutral soap and a touchless wash or gentle hand wash keep the coating performing for its full life.
3. What it's exposed to
Road salt, UV, high mileage and parking outdoors all add wear. A Kingston winter is a real test — the coating is doing its job by keeping salt from bonding to your paint, and it's working hard while it does it. See our road salt guide for the winter routine.
4. Maintenance visits
We recommend a decontamination and inspection once or twice a year, especially after winter. It removes the film that builds up on top of the coating and lets us check how it's holding up. Our Gold and Ultimate packages include scheduled maintenance so you don't have to track it.
Signs your coating is wearing
- Water spreads in sheets or sits flat instead of beading up.
- Dirt sticks and needs scrubbing instead of rinsing off.
- The paint feels less slick to the touch after a wash.
Can it be topped up?
Yes. Additional ceramic layers are available as an add-on for extra protection and longevity, and a coating nearing the end of its life can be decontaminated and re-coated. Ask us when you bring the vehicle in for maintenance.
